Adding Claude & OpenAI API Keys to Your Legacy Lifetime Account
In this video, we’ll walk through how to add your OpenAI and Anthropic API keys to a legacy Lifetime Marketing Magic account.
This tutorial is only relevant if you have a legacy Lifetime account. You’ll know this applies to you if your account page says Lifetime access and you can see the option to Add or Edit API Keys.
Who This Tutorial Is For
If you have a legacy Lifetime account, you’ll need to add your own API keys before using Marketing Magic.
Without your API keys saved in your account, Marketing Magic won’t work properly.
You can add:
An OpenAI API key, if you want to use OpenAI models
An Anthropic API key, if you want to use Claude models
You only need to add the API key for the model provider you want to use. However, if you want to be able to switch between OpenAI and Claude, you’ll need to add both.
Where to Add Your API Keys
To add or update your API keys:
Go to your Account page
Check that your account type says Lifetime access
Click Add or Edit API Keys
Add your OpenAI API key and/or Anthropic API key
Click Save API Keys
Once saved, you’ll see an encrypted version of your API keys in your account. This lets you know they’ve been added successfully.
Adding an Anthropic API Key for Claude
If you want to use Claude inside Marketing Magic, you’ll need to add an Anthropic API key.
From the API key section in Marketing Magic, click the button for Anthropic. This should take you to the page where you can create or manage your Anthropic API keys.
Once you’re there:
Create a new key
Give it a recognisable name, such as “Marketing Magic”
Copy the API key
Paste it into the Anthropic API key field in Marketing Magic
Save your API keys
After this is saved, you’ll be able to select Claude models from the model dropdown in your account.
Adding an OpenAI API Key
If you want to use OpenAI models inside Marketing Magic, you’ll need to add your OpenAI API key.
From the API key section in Marketing Magic, click the button for OpenAI. This should take you to the page where you can create a new secret key.
Once you’re there:
Create a new secret key
Give it a recognisable name, such as “Marketing Magic”
Copy the API key
Paste it into the OpenAI API key field in Marketing Magic
Save your API keys
Once saved, your OpenAI API key will be connected to your Marketing Magic account.
Important Things to Know
API keys are usually only shown once when you create them.
That means you’ll need to copy the key when it’s first generated and save it into Marketing Magic straight away.
If you lose access to the key, you may need to create a new one in your OpenAI or Anthropic account and update it inside Marketing Magic.
It’s also worth checking that you’ve added the right API key for the model you want to use. For example, if you select a Claude model but haven’t added an Anthropic API key, Claude won’t work. If you select an OpenAI model but haven’t added an OpenAI API key, OpenAI won’t work.
Choosing Your Model
Once your API keys are saved, you can choose which model you want to work with from the model dropdown in your account.
You can test different models and see which one gives you the best results for your content, tone of voice, and workflow.
If you’ve added both OpenAI and Anthropic API keys, you’ll be able to switch between OpenAI and Claude models.
