Improve Your Tone of Voice: Marketing Magic’s Voice DNA and Cognitive DNA is here!

Back to the Knowledge Base

this video, we’ll walk through the upgraded tone of voice setup inside Marketing Magic, including how to create your Voice DNA, add asset-specific tone of voice samples, and set up Cognitive DNA if you create teaching, training, or thought leadership content.

These updates are designed to help Marketing Magic create content that sounds much closer to you and your brand - not just in terms of your wording, but also in how you explain ideas, teach, reason, and communicate.

Where to Find Your Tone of Voice Settings

To get started, go to your Brand tab and open the Tone of Voice section.

At the top of the page, you’ll see:

  • Your selected language

  • Any word exclusions you’ve already added

  • A summary of your total word count

  • The number of tone of voice sources you’ve uploaded

If you had tone of voice samples saved in the previous version of Marketing Magic, you’ll see those listed underneath. These can still be used, but they’ll need a little update before you create your new Voice DNA.

Updating Existing Tone of Voice Samples

If you already had tone of voice samples in your account, you’ll need to edit and process them so Marketing Magic can use them for the upgraded system.

To update an existing sample:

  1. Open the sample

  2. Click Edit Sample

  3. Select the type of sample from the dropdown

  4. Give it a clear name, such as “Homepage Copy” or “Sales Page”

  5. Click Save

  6. Click Process Sample

Once the sample has finished processing, it will show as complete.

You’ll need to do this for each of your existing samples before creating your new Voice DNA.

The samples may change order after you rename them, as they are organised alphabetically.

Adding New Tone of Voice Samples

You can also add new samples at any time by clicking Add New Sample.

When adding a new sample, you’ll need to:

  1. Choose the type of sample from the dropdown

  2. Paste in your content

  3. Give the sample a name you’ll recognise

  4. Click Save Sample

New samples will automatically start processing once they’re saved, so you don’t need to click the process button manually.

The process button is mainly for samples that were already in your account from the previous version of Marketing Magic.

Choosing the Right Samples

The quality of your samples matters.

The more high-quality examples you add, the better Marketing Magic can understand your voice. That said, it’s better to add a smaller number of strong, relevant samples than lots of content that doesn’t really reflect how you want your brand to sound.

Good samples might include:

  • Homepage copy

  • About page copy

  • Sales pages

  • Marketing emails

  • Blog posts

  • Long-form captions

  • Course content

  • Workshop transcripts

  • Training transcripts

Try to use content that sounds like you at your best, especially if you want Marketing Magic to reflect that style in future outputs.

Creating Your Voice DNA

Once your samples have been processed, you’ll be able to create your main Voice DNA.

Your Voice DNA acts as your master brand voice inside Marketing Magic. It gives the platform a clearer understanding of your tone, style, language patterns, and communication preferences.

To create it, click Create in the Voice DNA section.

This will take a minute or so to process. Once it’s ready, you’ll see a summary of your Voice DNA inside your account.

This summary gives you a useful overview of your brand voice, but the deeper Voice DNA works behind the scenes to guide the content Marketing Magic creates for you.

Creating Asset-Specific Guidelines

You can also create tone of voice guidelines for specific types of content.

For example, your email style might be slightly different from your sales page style, and your blog posts might have a different rhythm again.

Once you upload three samples of a particular content type, Marketing Magic can create asset-specific guidelines for that format.

For example, if you upload three emails, you’ll be able to create email-specific guidelines. If you upload three sales pages, you’ll be able to create sales-page-specific guidelines.

This helps Marketing Magic adapt your voice depending on what you’re creating, rather than applying one general style to every type of content.

To create an asset-specific guide:

  1. Upload at least three samples of the same content type

  2. Wait for all three samples to finish processing

  3. Create your main Voice DNA first

  4. Click to create the specific guideline, such as your email guidelines

Once processed, those guidelines will be ready to use in your account.

What Is Cognitive DNA?

Cognitive DNA is designed for people who create teaching, training, educational, or thought leadership content.

While Voice DNA focuses on how you sound, Cognitive DNA looks at how you think.

It helps Marketing Magic understand your:

  • Teaching style

  • Explanation style

  • Reasoning style

  • Way of structuring ideas

  • Approach to helping people understand information

This is especially useful if you are a course creator, educator, trainer, content creator, or thought leader with a body of content that explains your ideas in depth.

Adding Samples for Cognitive DNA

To create your Cognitive DNA, you’ll need to upload five relevant samples.

These should be informational or teaching-based pieces of content, such as:

  • Course lesson transcripts

  • Workshop transcripts

  • Training transcripts

  • Educational video transcripts

  • Thought leadership content

To add one, click Add New Sample, then choose Course Lesson, Workshop, or Training Transcript from the dropdown.

Paste in your transcript, give it a clear name, and save the sample.

Marketing Magic will process each transcript after it’s uploaded. Once you have five processed samples, you’ll be able to create your Cognitive DNA.

Creating Your Cognitive DNA

Once you’ve uploaded five course, workshop, or training samples, and they’ve finished processing, click Create in the Cognitive DNA section.

This will usually take a short time to process.

Once it’s ready, you’ll see a Cognitive DNA summary inside your account, including sections such as:

  • Cognitive DNA summary

  • Teaching style

  • Explanation style

  • Reasoning style

This summary gives you a glimpse into what Marketing Magic has identified, but the real value is in how it feeds into your content behind the scenes.

Your Cognitive DNA helps Marketing Magic create content that reflects the way you formulate ideas, explain concepts, and guide your audience through information.

Why This Matters

This upgrade is especially powerful if your business is built around your ideas, frameworks, teaching, or thought leadership.

Instead of only trying to mimic your tone of voice, Marketing Magic can now take into account how you communicate and develop ideas.

That means your content can feel more aligned with the way you actually think, teach, and explain things — which is particularly useful for course creators, educators, consultants, coaches, and content-led businesses.

Next Steps

Start by reviewing any tone of voice samples already saved in your account.

Update each sample with a clear name and content type, then process them. After that, add any extra high-quality samples you want Marketing Magic to learn from.

Once your samples are ready, create your Voice DNA first. Then, if you have enough samples for a specific asset type, create your asset-specific guidelines.

If you create educational or thought leadership content, upload five course, workshop, or training transcripts so you can create your Cognitive DNA too.
